Once upon a time.....
I was born and raised in Michigan. I have an awesome family made up of my mom, dad, younger sister and two younger brothers. I went to Michigan State University for my Bachelors in Health Studies and Psychology. I got sick of the freezing weather and moved to San Diego in 2002, where I got my Masters in Public Heath from San Diego State University. Somewhere in between I went to Massage School also.
In 2005, I landed a job as a health coach with an alternative healthcare company. I never thought about helping people with their nutrition, exercise, tobacco cessation and stress management, let alone knew that such a job existed. I not only grew to love helping people lose weight and adapt a healthier lifestyle, but I also lost weight and achieved better habits for myself. We all have a pretty good understanding of what is healthy and what is not. The challenge is understanding yourself and finding what YOU need in order to achieve your weight loss goals via eating whole foods, staying active, and feeling emotionally balanced. In a way, changing your relationship with food and exercise. No quick fixes, diets and gimmicks! Nobody wants to gain the weight back after losing it right?!
I wasn't interested in settling down in my early or mid 20's. I was too busy with school, work and just having fun with my friends to even bother thinking about a future hubby. I had one bf before my hubs, nice guy but he was five years younger and we both were def. not on the same track relationship wise. Then I turned 28 and decided, ok. I'm ready to settle down now and the guys I'm meeting at work, bars or wherever else I was finding them wasn't cutting it. After hearing some success stories from coworkers, I decided to try Match.com. Now, internet dating was not that popular back then and it seemed weird to me. Almost embarrassing. But I told myself nobody would have to know and it would be just like shopping online, except for guys. I love shopping, so why not right? Ha! I just did the 1 month free trial and right at the end of my month, I found the hubs. Or rather he found me ;-) We got married in October of 2012. I still feel weird telling people how we met and I rarely volunteer the information unless I'm asked. Lols But someday I'll accept it!
June 2, 2014 I became a mommy! Wheeeeeee! Mateo's birth is another story I'll have to save for another post because let me tell ya....it's a crazy scary one. It's true though, you never know how much you can love a lil human being until you pop one out of you. I had an awesome life before my lil guy and he just added more fun to it!

After he was born, it was a hard decision to leave a career I enjoyed. No luck with finding day care or a nanny, not to mention the expensive costs. It just made sense for me to stay home with him, plus the thought of leaving him made me cringe! Never in a million years did I ever think I would become a stay at home mom, not to mention have a husband who was all for it! I love being with Mateo all the time and not missing any of his milestones. The way I look at it is I can always go back to work later and get those paychecks again but my kids will only be young once :-)
Want to know more?
1. I named this blog after Mateo and hopefully another child if we are blessed. I"m Filipino and the hubs is Mexican, thus Mexipino!
2. I've been wanting to start my own blog since I found out I was preggy with Mateo. I thought it would be fun to document my 1st pregnancy so my fam and friends could follow along with me. So much for that!
3. I hate cilantro. The smell even makes me want to vomit. The hubs loves to joke this was almost a deal breaker in our relationship. Whatevs.
4. I am a certified massage therapist but I am no longer practicing. I'm retired. Yah retired.
5. Speaking of #4, I love getting massages and especially spa days!
6. I love any kind of cheese except for goat. It just smells and tastes too goat-y for me. Not too fond of bleu cheese either, too feet-y for me but I can tolerate it in small amounts.
7. I played the piano since I was 7. I'm def. not as awesome as my youngest brother but I can still crank out some tunes. Chopin anyone?
8. I was a band geek in high school and played the flute and piccolo. I was ok, not horrible but not awesome at it. Yes, I went to band camp also.
9. I suck at sports. God just did not grace me with the sports gene. But dad did teach me how to golf in high school and I made the team! I still play here and there but def. not as good as those glory days.
10. I love dressing up for Halloween and any theme party. I have a closet full of costumes!
11. In college, I would give a fake name to guys instead of my real name when my friends and I were at the bar. I know that's messed up but that's what I did. My names were Sofia, Isabel and Mia. I thought it would be cool if I ever had a daughter to name her one of them but a) they are so common now and b) not sure if baby girl would appreciate knowing mommy passed her bar name down to her?
12. My fondest memories growing up include playing in a snow igloo my dad made for us kids. We would spend hours just sitting in it talking. Now that I think about it, so unsafe right? But so fun! lols
13. I don't have much of a sweets tooth, give me some french fries over a cookie any day. But I do appreciate a good blueberry donut, pistachio macaron or a small bowl of salted caramel ice cream.
14. I'm not a coffee drinker. But if the hubs gets something from Starbucks, I'll order a skinny, vanilla latte with a pump of chai or an iced green tea latte with soy.
15. I love almond milk with my cereal and in my smoothies but I don't like drinking it alone.
16. I love ramen and sushi. Basically I just love noodles and rice. Yes carbs are my best friend but not to my butt and hips.
17. I'm more of a die hard MSU Spartan fan than a SDSU Aztec fan. Sorry but not sorry! Go Green!
18. When the hubs is in LA for work overnight, I'll make Mateo his dinner and sometimes I'll just have popcorn. Speaking of popcorn, I always have to have it when I go to the movies.
19. I love to travel and hope to do more. My fave places so far are Spain and Japan.
20. I don't like to watch scary movies.
21. I never liked decorating for the holidays until Mateo came along.
22. I try to always be positive and think on the bright side. You won't get anywhere in life being a fuddy duddy debbie downer!
23. My favorite Filipino dish is kare kare. Ok I have two dishes, I gotta show love for chicken adobo.
24. I'm always on the hunt for a place that serves good chilaquiles or mole.
25. I collected porcelain dolls as a kid. Mom would get me one for every birthday or christmas. Creepy I know and hope this doesn't stop you from reading my blogs.
26. I would consider myself an extrovert. There are times when I would rather be alone. Who am I kidding, I love "galabanting" as my dad would say.
27. I'm so tired of hearing myself talking about going back to school for nursing one day. So tired, I've stopped talking about it. But when the kids are in school, I won't rule out the idea of going back to school. Last degree, I swear. Nursing of course. There I go, talking about it again.
28. I like watching football and baseball games but not so much into basketball.
29. I don't read enough. I didn't even read any pregnancy books. I need to read more. Do magazines count?
30. I love taking cooking and baking classes. I don't consider myself awesome at either but I don't think I"m horrible. I thank my mommy for pushing my sister and I to learn to cook in high school.
Thanks for reading and please tell me a lil about yourself too! xoxo B
